The CrossFit Open starts on February 16, 2023. Registration is now open!
What is the CrossFit Open? The Open is a worldwide competition for CrossFitters of all ages and levels to see how they stack up against their gym friends as well as athletes from around the globe. For elite athletes, it’s the first step toward qualifying for the Crossfit Games. For everyday Crossfitters, it’s a chance to test yourself and measure your progress.
The Open has taken place every year since 2011. When you see workouts with names like “14.1” or “15.4” in the weekly program, those are past Open workouts.
How does it work? CrossFit HQ will release one workout every Thursday for three weeks beginning on February 16. There are Rx, scaled, foundations, and masters versions of every workout, so all athletes can participate at a level that’s right for them. Athletes have until the following Monday to complete the workout with a judge and submit their scores online.
At CFN, the Open workouts will be completed during regular classes on Fridays and Saturdays. While the class schedule will remain the same, classes may be structured slightly differently to accommodate multiple heats of workouts and to ensure that athletes who need a judge can have one. Athletes can also complete the workouts during CarlosWOD on Friday nights or Open Gym on Sundays.
Do I have to register? Signing up with Crossfit HQ is the only way to have your name and scores show up on the worldwide leaderboard, and we encourage you to do so, but everyone can do the workouts and participate in the Intramural Open regardless of whether they’re officially registered. Note that there is a $20 fee to register with CrossFit HQ.
CFN will also be running its annual Intramural Open. The Intramural Open is a free in-house team competition in which athletes can score points for their team by completing the Open workouts, setting new PRs and reaching new milestones, and participating in the gym community through SugarWOD. Stay tuned for details and information on how to sign up!
